FCC ADOPTS ORDER TO PROHIBIT THE DISTRIBUTION AND SALE OF DEVICES OPERATING IN THE 700 MHZ FREQUENCY AND TO CLEAR THE BAND FOR PUBLIC SAFETY AND NEXT GENERATION CONSUMER USES (January 15, 2010) Washington, D.C. – Today the Federal Communications Commission adopted an Order and Further Notice of Proposed Rulemaking prohibiting the further distribution and sale of devices that operate in the 700 MHz frequency. This action helps complete an important component of the DTV Transition by clearing the 700 MHz band to enable the rollout of communications services for public safety and the deployment of next generation 4G wireless devices for consumers.. PAMA MEMBERS HAVE CEASED SELLING WIRELESS MICROPHONES UTILIZING THE 700 MHz FREQUENCY INTO THE MARKETPLACE (January 15, 2009) New York, NY - PAMA has been working with FCC staff towards an orderly transition out of this frequency and welcome the communication of the firm June 12 date by which to complete the exercise. We totally support the consumer outreach program and most of our manufacturers have set up their own informative web sites to assist their current and future customers. They have supplied the FCC with the database of models which the Commission will be posting on their newly constructed consumer-friendly site.

(BUSINESSWEEK - By Olga Kharif) FCC OPENS NEW AIRWAVES TO THE PUBLIC (November 5, 2008) Portland, OR - Regulators, siding with techs like Google and Microsoft, rule that "white space" freed up by digital TV is best used for high-speed wireless hot spots. While the country was picking its next President on Nov. 4, the Federal Communications Commission was making its own momentous decision. The country's top communications regulator unanimously voted to free up the biggest ever swath of airwaves to be used by the public for cheap high-speed wireless Internet access. (more)
SHURE RAISES CONCERNS OVER FCC WHITE SPACES DECISION (November 4, 2008) Niles, IL - The Federal Communications Commission today voted to allow technology companies like Google, Microsoft, Dell, and Motorola to produce white spaces devices that will use the same radio frequency (RF) spectrum now being used by wireless microphone systems. Final text of the rules is not yet available, but the order is purported to greatly reduce the amount of clear spectrum available for use by professional audio and communications equipment. (more)
