PAMA FILES EX PARTE COMMENTS WITH THE FCC OFFERING GUIDANCE ON PLANNED TRANSITIONING (January 5, 2009) New York, NY - PAMA, with the support of many leading microphone manufacturers, filed ex parte comments with the FCC regarding the Commission's actions on new primary uses of the 700 MHz band as they implement plans transitioning wireless microphones out of that 700 MHz band. A two year transition period is requested but flexibility is offered. Please review the attached as our entire industry will feel the negative effects of a hasty, disruptive transition.
This filing does not address the "white spaces" spectrum which falls below 698 MHz. The FCC ruling made on Nov. 4th needs much more clarification as to what they have ruled on and what has not been decided. Issues on gelocation, spectrum sensing capabilities, and licensing up in the air. Petitions to the FCC for reconsideration are being prepared as are possible law suits. These will be brought forward by organizations with much deeper pockets than PAMA.
Our organization is focusing first on the 700 MHz spectrum and will keep a vigilant eye on the proceedings in the "white spaces". These efforts take time and money to pursue and we thank the participating microphone manufacturers for their support and all members for giving us the resources to be an advocate on this critical industry issue.
